Deaconess Nurse Ministry is a nonprofit focused on providing mental and physical health-related services to seniors and low-income adults in their community. They fulfill their mission by offering screenings and education opportunities with registered nurses in places within their community they already visit regularly, such as churches, meaning clients don’t have to go out of their way to receive services.
Originally, Deaconess Nurse Ministry ran on paper records. Tracking accurate data with decentralized record-keeping was made even more challenging by the fact that they operate remotely rather than in one location. Home-grown databases proved no more reliable as each computer had a different version of the information being tracked. Without a suitable technology solution, they faced difficulty reporting and working with nurses in the field.
Deaconess Nurse Ministry required a solution with the ability to (1) improve data accuracy and availability, (2) simplify required reporting and (3) provide holistic service delivery. After approaching end-users about how to improve their practices, Deaconess Nurse Ministry selected Social Solutions’ case management software utilizing cloud technology to make sharing up-to-date data with all nurses, regardless of location, a simple task.
In partnership with Social Solutions, Deaconess Nurse Ministry implemented Apricot Core, an accessible tool that gives remote nurses the ability to input all of their data into the system— anywhere, any time they need to. Deaconess Nurse Ministry opted to use the system to track their client’s health assessments to see improvements resulting from their work over time and track all of their services contributing to overall wellness.
Since Deaconess Nurse Ministry’s migrated to Apricot, their ability to self-report on their clients has vastly improved their service delivery, which before suffered from inconsistency from mobility and decentralization.

Using Apricot with hot spots for the nurses in the field allows them access to records, so they can see what the clients have been doing overtime. This enhances the client’s education as the nurse can say where the client started and where the client is now.”
