Steve Butz, President and Founder
Steve Butz has spent his career in human services. Throughout years of work as a counselor, teacher and case manager, Steve maintained a steady focus on and dedication to improving data collection, outcome achievement, and accountability for his students and his programs. His innovative programs, courses, and performance management tools continue to be hallmarks of each of those organizations in which he served.
In 2000, Steve leveraged his own human services expertise and his commitment to outcomes measurement to found Social Solutions with partners Vince Griffith and Adrian Bordone. Their mission for Social Solutions is to challenge and equip human service providers and their funders to turn good intent into measurable change by relating efforts to outcomes. Today, Social Solutions serves thousands organizations throughout the United States and Canada with its ETO Software.
In 2008, Steve pursued his vision of making a lasting impact on the nonprofit sector and established the Superstar Foundation to find and reward the nation’s highest performing social service providers with cash grants.
In addition, in 2008 Steve helped bring together some of the nation’s most influential leaders impacting the social service sector to form the Working Group for Effective Social Investing. The group’s mission is to improve the flow of funds into the sector by creating a set of standards by which organizations will indicate their likeliness to generate social value.
An expert on nonprofit effectiveness, Steve is frequently interviewed by media, including the Washington Post, Washington Business Journal, Baltimore Sun, New Jersey Star Ledger, Fast Company, and the Chronicle of Philanthropy, among others. Steve has also appeared as a guest on Bloomberg radio, NPR Morning Edition, and the Kojo Nnamdi show.
Steve was born and raised in Maryland and graduated magna cum laude, from Loyola College of Baltimore. Steve is married and has three children.
