Many of you will recognize the numbers I am about to share…they are not new, just starkly illuminating. Today, the US carries over $14 trillion in debt. Too often, these out-sized numbers are difficult to grasp. For some perspective, I like to think of these numbers in units of time. In that case, 1 million seconds equals about 12 days. 1 trillion seconds equals about 31,000 years. 14 trillion seconds equals about 443,000 years. So, if we started tomorrow to pay off our debt at $1 per second is would take us over 400,000 years to pay that debt off (assuming we created no more debt during the pay-off period). I travel quite a bit for my job. In a given year, I am typically in front of 200-300 human service organizations that are looking to transition from putting numbers in boxes to measuring the impact of their work. Since we view ourselves and our organizations as part of the fabric of the communities we serve, it is important to realize that our ability to improve and promote our work will help to raise the level of performance and expectation in the lives of the individuals and institutions we touch. To be an Anchor Agency, we need to not only convert data into actionable intelligence for our team, but we must also “export” high performance to those around us. What does that mean? How do we get there? Let’s break it down.
